Gerrit was a director at Airshed from 2005 to 2012, but is still an associate with the company. He is a chemical engineer by training, with a PhD in particulate capture, but also completed MBA. Experience prior to joining Aisrhed includes environmental management and GHG advisory positions in the petrochemical industry as well as consulting work on emission measurement. With Airshed, he was involved in numerous projects for government, with involvement in proposing both ambient and emission standards, and for industry in South Africa, Zambia, Mozambique, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Suriname. He does mainly emission inventories but has also worked on ambient monitoring projects. Since semi-retiring he has also returned to academia, with a number of Masters and PhD student completing their studies under his guidance.
